Hardyston Township Parents Form Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG)
HARDYSTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – We would like to notify our community that Hardyston Township Special Education Parent Advisory Group SEPAG has been formed by Ria Mastenbrook, President, Charlene O’Brien, Vice President, Child Study Team Coordinator, Gina Gibson, with the support of the Chief School Administrator, Dr. Richard Corbett, School Administration and the Board of Education, with secretarial duties performed by Denise Kelly.
Special Education Parent Advisory Groups are required for all school districts in New Jersey. The purpose of the group is to provide opportunities for parents and community members to offer input to their districts on critical issues relating to the student population. With the extensive experience, knowledge, and education that Ria, Charlene, Gina, Denise and advisory members bring to the Hardyston Township SEPAG, we are also fortunate to have the support of Child & Family Resources, where Charlene is employed. Child & Family Resources (CFR) is a non- profit organization that focuses on children. CFR creates and implements programs and services that support the development of children and their families by engaging and partnering with the community in their efforts to enhance the lives of children.
Many children and families worry about the unknown and perceived obstacles which leaves them feeling alone and unsure. The goal of the SEPAG is to ensure that every family in our community knows that they are not alone with their concern or worry and that there are resources available to assist them both in and out of school. We are a parent led organization aligned with our Child Study Team fostering communication and involvement to ensure the best education for every child in our school district. The SEPAG is open to every family in our school district who is interested in educational resources or who has concerns and needs support. We look forward to developing a close working relationship with other district groups as well. “There is a significant statistical relationship between the level of family involvement and improved outcomes for children and young adults. Acknowledging families as assets in our schools (and other systems) contributes to our children’s and young adults’ success as learners, future leaders and productive citizens in our communities.”
MISSION: The mission of the Hardyston Township Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) is to increase community involvement while engaging with the school district with regards to the district’s special education programs targeting critical issues and jointly establish solutions to ensure the best educational and emotional outcomes.
