The Flip Side of Saving Receipts

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – In a previous penny pinching article, I had shared the importance of saving and even acquiring receipts at the end of transactions. These days, some merchants are forgoing the printing of receipts -– in some cases to “go green” and in other cases because the buyer is simply not interested in toting around an extra slip of paper. And without those receipts, there are money saving opportunities lost, with treasures that can be missed on the front side of receipts, including special coupons and offers.
This follow up article is a penny-pinching reminder to additionally not neglect the flip side of receipts.
In the featured photo are examples of three receipts acquired locally where there are special offers on the backside of printed receipts.
From left to right:
Left is a Walmart receipt. The special offer is for SmartStyle, the hair salon located in some Walmart stores. In this area (while plugging in zip code 07860 for Newton) the closest SmartStyle Salons are located in Hackettstown and Milford, PA Walmart stores. The special on this receipt offers prepaid haircuts at the price of two haircuts for $10 as well as 20 percent off of retail products sold in the store. Though this particular coupon did not have an expiration date, the offer was denoted as “limited time.”
This Walmart receipt was from a few days before Christmas and another receipt in my possession from a few days prior to that, instead printed with red ink, is a register receipt with the same haircutting offer plus a 25 percent off of regularly priced product.
The middle receipt is from the Sparta Super Stop & Shop. What is great about this one is although the Super Stop & Shop is a chain store, the coupons on the flip side of the printed register receipt is for local businesses. Another plus is the coupons repeat on the Stop & Shop receipts, which allows opportunities to return to the establishment if desired, more than once. The featured coupons on this receipt include: monies off on certain levels of service at Rev It Up!, an auto repair shop on Main Street. Among those offers: $10 off any service of $100 or more, $20 off any service of $200 or more and $20 off of any brake service. Hunan Wok, also in Sparta, is another merchant that opted into this special coupon program, with $2 off of a purchase of $15 or more (cash only). Villa Capri II in Sparta advertised two cheese pies for $17.99 and $3 off any purchase of $20 or more. There were two more “national offers” as well on the receipt. The first from Peapod, an online shopping and delivery for Stop & Shop, offered $10 off of the first order. The second was from Supercuts, for $3 off any haircut.
The receipt on the right is the flip side of a Wendy’s receipt. As in the cases of the receipts in the first article, many merchants are seeking feedback on the customer experience. With the Wendy’s receipt, visitors can give their comments about their visit and are rewarded $2 off any large sandwich or full-size salad. The opinion must be given within 48 hours of the visit to redeem this offer.
Be sure if interested in redeeming any special offers on the backside of any printed receipt, to use them as quickly as possible, as most are limited time offers.
