Police Warn Residents About Fraud and Theft By Deception Scams
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – Over the past week the Byram Police have seen a rise in Fraud and Theft by deception complaints among our residents.
Callers are posing as Internal Revenue Service Agents, Utility companies, Police Departments and many other types of businesses and using methods to make their phone numbers appear as if they are from the real company or government agency.
They convince you to send funds via Green Dot Card, Western Union and Money Gram and use all types of tactics including telling you a family member is injured or incarcerated.
Please use caution when you receive these types of calls and advise the caller that you will contact the local police or utility company directly from a number on your bill to be to verify the legitimacy.
At no time should your personnel information or access to your computer be given as they can obtain your financial information.
If you have any doubt on a call you receive please contact your local police department.
