Phoebus and Space Ask County to Make Settlement Public Before Vote
The taxpayers of Sussex County have the right to know the details of the Settlement Agreement with SunLight General Capital/Power Partners MasTec before their elected Freeholders vote on it.
Without knowing those details, the taxpayers who will ultimately shoulder the bill will have no intelligent way of letting their elected officials know what they think about it. We believe in letting the people know what they will be paying for.
The County has determined that the Settlement Agreement will not be revealed to the public until moments before it is expected to be voted on by the Freeholder Board. That vote is set for this Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
In the interest of open government and participatory democracy, we urge the County and the Freeholder Board to postpone voting on the Settlement Agreement with SunLight General Capital/Power Partners MasTec until the public and the press have had the opportunity to read it and fully vet it. We are asking that the County and the Freeholder Board postpone the vote until the following Freeholder Board meeting, set forMarch 11, 2015.
