Motor Vehicle Stop in Newton Leads to CDS Arrest
On 5/3/14 at 3:58p.m., Sgt. Michael Monaco stopped a green, 2002 Subaru Impreza on Diller Avenue that he had observed speeding on Trinity Street. While in the process of obtaining the lone occupant’s credentials, Sgt. Monaco immediately detected an odor of marijuana and observed two “buds” of marijuana to be present within the interior of the vehicle which was being operated by Jared Martz, age 19, of Penn Avenue, Andover, N.J.
Further investigation resulted in the discovery of a small glass container with several marijuana “buds” inside of it along with a small multi-colored marijuana smoking pipe being found on the backseat . Both items were recovered and retained as evidence.
As a result, Martz was charged with the following offenses:
N.J.S. 2C:35-10a(4) Possession of Less than 50 grams of Marijuana (Disorderly Persons)
N.J.S.2C:36-2 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Disorderly Persons)
Martz was additionally issued the following motor vehicle summons:
39:4-98 Speeding
39:3-29C Failure to exhibit a valid insurance card
39:4-49.1 Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
Martz was processed and released pending a 5/27/14 court appearance in Newton Municipal Court.
