Fatality from Pedestrian Struck in Newton
On 12/15/14 at 2:33p.m., Newton Police Officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls reporting a serious motor vehicle accident on Water Street (between Mill Street and Spring Street) involving a pedestrian being struck by a motorist who was traveling in the southbound lane of Water Street closest to Hayek’s Market.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Timothy Hendershot, age 34, was attempting to cross several lanes of traffic in an easterly direction on Water Street, near the driveway to Hayek’s Market, when he was struck by a 2012 Honda Civic being driven by Kyle Stanulis, age 22, of Andover, NJ.
Hendershot sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to the Newton Medical Center by the Newton First Aid Squad. Subsequently, Hendershot expired from his injuries. Stanulis was alone in his vehicle and was not injured in the crash.
St. Clare’s paramedics, the N.J. State DOT Traffic Diversion Unit and the Newton Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist.
The accident is under investigation but no summonses are expected to be issued.
Traffic in the immediate area was detoured for several hours while the investigation was conducted.
