Traffic Stop Leads to Possession of CDS Charges
On 1/6/15 at 9:24p.m., Sgt. Michael Monaco stopped a 2013 Chrysler sedan on Sparta Avenue due to the driver failing to stop at the red light at the intersection of Diller and Sparta Avenue. While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, Sgt. Monaco smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Maria Norman, age 44 of Stillwater, N.J., a passenger in the vehicle, was in possession of 2 bags of marijuana (less than 50 grams) and a glass marijuana smoking pipe.
As a result, she was arrested and charged with the following:
N.J.S. 2C: 36-2 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
N.J.S. 2C:35-10a(4) Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana-Less than 50 grams)
The operator of the vehicle, Daniel Norman, was also issued a summons for the following:
39:4-81 Failure to Obey a Traffic Signal
Case pending an appearance in Newton Municipal Court.
