Franklin Celebrates with Annual Holiday Tree Lighting
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ – In spite of frigid temperatures on Saturday, Nov. 29, the holiday spirit was warm as Franklin Borough residents gathered outside the Senior Center yesterday evening to usher in the holiday season.
The Franklin Borough Recreation Committee organized the event. Frosty the Snowman and a Gingerbread Man mingled with children from the community and Miss Franklin. The Rein Dog contest was another highlight with Sergeant the Pug and Pekinese mix taking home the title as the evening’s Rein Dog.
While the Franklin Band played festive music in front of the Senior Center, attendees crunched through the snow towards the Christmas Tree Display. Members of the Recreation Committee asked for a moment of silence in memory of longtime resident and former Senator Bob Littell.
Following Santa’s arrival by fire truck, he posed in a sleigh set in the snow, and then headed over to light the Christmas trees.
Once the trees were lit, event goers headed into the Senior Center to warm up with holiday music, coffee or cocoa and dessert. Kids had the chance to sit on the lap of Elsa from Frozen, and to have their faces painted.
