SCCC Offers High School Juniors and Seniors a Head Start on College

NEWTON, NJ – December 19, 2013 – Sussex County Community College’s Early College Advantage Program (ECAP), is designed for students currently enrolled as high school juniors or seniors who wish to earn college-level credits prior to graduation. Students can receive an ECAP Admission Application at their high school guidance office, from the SCCC web site, or obtain it from the college’s Counseling and Advising Center. Upon obtaining signed permission from their high school guidance counselor and parent or legal guardian, students may enroll in up to two college courses (not exceeding eight credit hours of academic work) per semester during the day or evening.

As ECAP students, upon graduation from high school and enrollment at SCCC, they will have all applicable credits applied toward their certificate or associate’s degree. If students choose to enroll at different colleges or universities they can request an official SCCC transcript to be sent to the other school for credit transfer consideration.

To be considered for the ECAP program, students must:

• Have an SAT score of at least 530 for math and 540 for reading or test proficient on the college’s Accuplacer placement test

• Be recommended by their high school guidance counselor
• Have a parent or guardian grant permission to participate
• Be a high school junior or senior

Home schooled students between the ages of 16 and 18 are also eligible to participate in the ECAP program. Students who meet the academic requirements listed above will receive an acceptance letter and be asked to meet with an SCCC counselor for registration.
