Newton-Assault with Injury
On Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at approximately 10:29pm, Newton Police Officers responded to 6 North Park Drive, in the parking lot of the Applebees Restaurant, for a report of an assault with injury.
Responding officers found a male profusely bleeding with severe swelling to the left side of his face and left eye. The victim was later identified as Ryan Gerrity, a 28 year old from Dalton, PA. Newton First Aid Squad arrived shortly thereafter and began treating Gerrity. Due to the significance of his injuries and possible facial fractures, he was medevac’d to the Morristown Medical Center.
Officers interviewed witnesses who helped them to identify the person who had assaulted Gerrity. Witnesses reported seeing the victim on the ground with the suspect on top of him and he was repeatedly striking him in the facial area. He was located nearby and detained for further investigation. The suspect was identified as Kurtis Kimble, a 25 year old male from Dingman’s Ferry, PA.
Subsequent investigation led to Kimble being arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault NJS 2C:12-1B(1). Honorable Judge John E. Mulhern, JMC authorized a warrant and set bail for Kimble at $50,000 with 10% option. Kimble was then lodged at the Sussex County Jail in default of bail.
Ptl. Scott Vertetis, Ptl. Michael Wolanski and Ptl. Jason Miller responded to the scene and conducted the investigation.
