The Secret Gourmet Visits Cloveberry in Sparta

On a recent stop to a very popular café in Sparta I arrived around noon and while it wasn’t that busy service was a little slow. Surprisingly at other times when I have been there, it’s busier and service is quicker. Nonetheless the ambience is cozy and inviting.

Cloveberry is run by Dev and his wife Georgia, who have very impressive credentials and have worked for the Plaza in Ritz Carlton in New York City.

Dev prides his café on the French Pressed Coffee. Although it takes a little longer it is worth the wait.

Cloveberry offers a variety of coffees, lattes and specialty flavors including organic and Fair Trade.

You are always greeted with a smile and the place is spotless.

Many patrons come in just for coffee while others prefer to sit and linger. The enclosed glass case offers a variety of pastries and mouthwatering cakes that seem to scream, “Eat me I am irresistible!” And many customer do. They are that picture perfect magazine ready.

Although the place is small especially when there is a crowd it is worth the wait. There are tables and chairs on the porch of this converted home, which can lend itself to more intimate conversations.

All the food is prepared fresh and is worth the wait. The menu is varied and the sandwiches and salads run anywhere from $10 to $13. This visit I decided to order the chicken curry and my dining partner ordered Turkey Panni. Both sandwiches came with sides fruit and tomatoes with fresh mozzarella.

The portions are generous. The chicken curry had large chunks of white chicken moist with lettuce tomatoes on homemade mutltigrain bread . The turkey panni was good fresh and what one would expect from this sandwich. Our total bill cost $19.00 per person, as we ordered special coffees.

A tad high, but due to the fact the ingredients are fresh and the coffee French pressed it was well worth it. It is obvious the owners know what they are doing when it comes to customer service and food preparation — they surpass Starbucks and the higher end coffee shops in Sparta Township in every way.

Other businesses have tried this location and failed.
