Arrest for Prescription Fraud in Franklin
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ – On September 15, 2014 the Franklin Police responded to North Country Pharmacy in Franklin, New Jersey for a report of a female attempting to fraudulently obtain a prescription legend drug.
Upon officers arrival a pharmacist reported that she received a suspicious phone call from a physician’s office requesting a specific prescription. The pharmacist reported contacting the physician’s office to confirm the validity of the prescription. Representatives from the physician’s office reported no such prescription was requested.
Detectives responded to the pharmacy and there made contact with Jackie Degraaf, 29, of Sparta New Jersey. Ms. Degraaf was allegedly waiting for the medication to be dispensed to her. Ms. Degraff was arrested and transported to Franklin Police Headquarters.
An investigation revealed that Ms. Degraaf allegedly, contacted the pharmacy as an authorized representative of a local physician’s office, ordered a prescription, and attempted to retrieve the same prescription a short time later.
At Franklin Police Headquarters she was charged with the unlicensed practice of medicine and attempting to obtain a prescription legend drug by fraud or deception. She was transported to the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail with no ten percent option.
The complaints that were filed are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The charges may be presented to a grand jury for potential indictment.
