Town of Newton Launches New Shuttle Bus Service
NEWTON, NJ – The Town of Newton is pleased to announce the launch of a new town-wide shuttle bus that will carry passengers throughout Newton.
Service commences on Tuesday, November 3rd and will run Tuesdays-Fridays from 11am-2pm. In addition to the existing Senior Shuttle Bus, this new endeavor will allow Newton residents and business patrons the opportunity to travel around Town to select destinations at no cost. All costs are borne by the Town of Newton in order to encourage patronage at local eateries and establishments.
Although the bus is open to anyone in Newton, the primary goal is to allow employees of SCCC and Thorlabs to leave their respective campuses (without giving up a parking space!) to shop and dine at local small businesses, encouraging a stronger relationship between visitors to Newton and area businesses.
“We have talked about this venture for many years,” stated Thomas S. Russo, Jr., Newton Town Manager. “It is a great way for employees of Thorlabs, and students/faculty at Sussex County Community College, to leave their respective campuses with comfort and ease, in order to patronize some of our terrific eateries and shoppes. The bus is also open to anyone in Town so it is a proverbial win-win for everyone.”
Passengers shall be 16 years of age or older. The bus runs Tuesdays through Fridays from 11am – 2pm. The bus is handicapped accessible and can accommodate up to 21 passengers, space permitting. All passengers are required to wear seat belts. Passengers can bring one (1) personal bag (i.e. purse, backpack) and two (2) additional shopping bags on the bus.
The stops on the route include: SCCC (Performing Arts Center and E-building), Dominick’s Pizzeria Plaza, Krave/QuickChek Plaza, Thorlabs, Spring Street, Hayek’s Market, and Authentic Pizza Plaza.
For approximate pick-up/drop-off times, please go to the Town of Newton official website at www.newtontownhall.com.
The bus will not run on Town of Newton holidays, in the event of inclimate weather, or due to unforeseen circumstances requiring the Town Manager or his designee to cancel same. Any cancellations of service will be noted exclusively on the Town website.
