Hunter Found Fatally Injured
HOPATCONG – A 66 year old male hunter was found on the ground under his climbing tree stand which was about 16 feet above him in a tree. The Police were called by the property owner. He had been asked by a family member of the hunter to see if he could find him after it turned dark and he did not return. The owner of the property followed the footprints in the snow and saw the victim unconscious below his tree stand. He called 911 and then started CPR on the victim. About 8 responders including family members helped carry the victim out of the woods. The victim had been about 3/4 of a mile into the woods. Rescue breathing was performed on the victim the entire time they were carrying him out. He was brought to Hackettstown Hospital. It was later found that he did not survive. The victims gun and backpack were found up the tree. It is not known at this time if he fell and was fatally injured or had a medical issue and then fell.
