Promotions Within the Bureau of Corrections

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – Sheriff Michael F. Strada is pleased to announce the following promotions within the Bureau of Corrections.

Sergeant Allan O’Gorman has been promoted to lieutenant. A 13 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Lieutenant O’Gorman began his law enforcement career in 1997 as a dispatcher with the Hopatcong Borough Police Department. He served for 5 years in Hopatcong before being hired by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer in 2002. He was promoted to sergeant in 2007. Lieutenant O’Gorman holds an Associate in Science Degree in Business Administration from the Community College of Morris and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from William Paterson University. Following his promotion, Lt. O’Gorman has been assigned to command the 3pm-11pm shift at the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility.

Corrections Officer Eric Groeger has been promoted to Sergeant. A 2002 Hopatcong High School graduate, he attended Sussex County Community College before being hired by the Sheriff’s Office. A 9 year veteran of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Corrections, Sgt. Groeger was recently awarded the Sheriff’s Honorable Service Award for his assistive actions in successfully saving the life of an inmate during a medical emergency in May of 2015. Following his promotion, Sgt. Groeger has been assigned as a supervisor on the 3pm-11pm shift at the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility.

Corrections Officer Stephen Murphy has been promoted to Corporal. A 1998 graduate of Butler High School, he attended the County College of Morris before being hired by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer.   A 15 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Corporal Murphy received the Sheriff’s Lifesaving Award in 2002 for his actions in successfully thwarting an inmate’s attempted suicide. Following his promotion, Corporal Murphy has been assigned to the 7am-3pm shift at the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility.

Corrections Officer Jason Kimble has been promoted to Corporal. A 1991 graduate of Newton High School, he attended both Lock Haven and Montclair Universities while he pursued a degree in Physical Education. A 15 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Corporal Kimble began his law enforcement career in 2000 when he was hired by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer. During his career, Corporal Kimble has received the Sheriff’s Educational Achievement Award, the Good Conduct Award, and the Lifesaving Award for his actions in preventing an inmate’s attempted suicide in 2002. A former member of the Sheriff’s Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and a 6 year rider on the annual Police Unity Tour, Corporal Kimble is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hostage Negotiator course. Following his promotion, Corporal Kimble has been assigned to the 7am-3pm shift at the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility.
