Possession of a Rifle Without First Obtaining Firearms Purchaser Identification Card

On 8-14-14, the Byram Twp. Police Department received a call about an individual firing a BB gun in the direction of the victim who was in her canoe on Lake Lackawanna at the time. The officer spoke to the accused, Sebastian K. Smith of Byram Twp. Smith stated that he was shooting the BB gun and that he did not have a New Jersey Firearms Purchaser Identification Card. Smith was arrested and transported back to the station for processing. At the station, Smith was charged with the following and released pending a mandatory Sussex County Superior Court date: Possession of a Rifle Without First Obtaining a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and Discharge of a Firearm Within 300 Feet of a Dwelling (Local Ordinance).
