Fatal Accident in Franklin Still Under Investigation
FRANKLIN, NJ – On June 7, 2015 at approximately 9:30 AM the Franklin Police Department received reports of a serious motor vehicle crash on State Highway 23 near the entrance to the Shop Rite.
The investigation thus far revealed a motorcycle was being operated on State Highway 23 passed the intersection of Washington Avenue where it struck a four door sedan with two occupants turning into the Franklin ShopRite shopping center. An additional vehicle was struck by the motorcycle as it continued northbound after the initial impact; none of the occupants in the vehicles struck by the motorcycle were injured in the incident.
The motorcyclist was ultimately transported to St. Clare’s Sussex Hospital. The rider was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained in the accident at St. Clare’s Sussex Hospital . The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification to the family.
Franklin Police Department, Hardyston Police Department, Ogdensburg Police Department, as well as Sparta Basic Life Support (BLS) and St. Clare’s Sussex Paramedics responded to the scene. The Sussex County Prosecutors Office and the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit assisted in the investigation.
Route 23 North and South remained closed for several hours during the course of the investigation between Walsh Road and Washington Ave.
The investigation is still currently ongoing.
No charges have been filed at this time.
