Sussex County Community College Jan Jones Named Counselor of Excellence

NEWTON, NJ – November 21, 2013 – The New Jersey Community College Counselor’s Association has named Jan Jones the recipient of the Award for Counselor Excellence. Jones is the only counselor from among New Jersey’s 19 community colleges to receive the distinction. She was nominated by Dean of Student Affairs, Debbie McFadden.

Jan Jones has served as a counselor at Sussex County Community College for the past 17 years. She specializes as a Personal Counselor to students who have non-academic issues that are interfering with their education. She has also headed up the Veteran’s Task Force at the college and has been instrumental in launching SCCC’s Veteran’s Resource Center.

Jan Jones began her career as a full-time student at SCCC in 1989, on the day the college began operation at its current campus. She subsequently transferred to Upsala College where she received her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Degree and went on to earn her Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree from New York University.

Jan resides in Milford, Pennsylvania with her husband Tom. Both of her daughters, Mary and Anna have attended SCCC.
