Harassment Charges Filed Against Byram Resident

On 6-17-14, the Byram Twp. Police Department took a harassment complaint from a victim who stated that another individual has called him numerous times in a several minute span and left the victim several harassing and alarming voicemail messages. The officers reviewed the messages left by the suspect, Thomas S. McDermott of Byram Twp. and it was discovered that McDermott alluded to wanting to engage in the type of violence toward the victim that McDermott witnessed while serving in the military in Afghanistan. After speaking to McDermott, patrols concluded that McDermott did make the numerous phone calls and left the voice mail messages. McDermott did claim to have previous military service but admitted to never having served over seas in Afghanistan. McDermott was arrested and transported to the station where he was charged with Harassment. He was then released pending a mandatory Byram Twp. Municipal Court date.
