A Cappella Singers Will Travel Back to the ‘50s to Benefit Newton Medical Center
NEWTON, NJ – Harmony in Motion, an a cappella chorus comprised of women from the community, will host a “Fabulous 50s Reunion,” to benefit the Auxiliary of Newton Medical Center on June 1. The event will take place at Sussex County Community College’s Performing Arts Center, One College Hill Road, Newton, NJ.
Proceeds from the show will help the Auxiliary’s mission to support the hospital and provide financial assistance to initiatives that promote the health and welfare of the community.
“We are looking forward to an exciting afternoon of wonderful music and support from the community both on and off the stage,” said Karen Curd, president of the Auxiliary of Newton Medical Center.
The “Fabulous 50s Reunion” was sold out when the chorus last performed it in October 2013 at Newton High School. This upcoming performance will also mark the final show for Pat Smith, who has directed the chorus for nine years. Smith will pass leadership to Sandy Newcomer, who will co-direct this performance.
The New Jersey chapter of Harmony in Motion, based in Sussex County, is part of Harmony Inc., a national organization of women’s signing groups. The group sings in four-part harmony for shows, gala events and fundraisers. The New Jersey chapter has 52 members, many of whom join together weekly on Monday nights at Bristol Glen in Newton to rehearse and share their love of singing and performing. The group also has quartets who perform in the area.
The organization is open to women of all ages and all walks of life. Funding for Harmony in Motion has been made available in part by the NJ State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through the State/County Partnership Block Grant Program, as administered by the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council. These deserving seniors are chosen from high schools in the Sussex, Warren and Pike counties.
