Burglary and Criminal Mischief at Area Business
NEWTON, NJ – On the morning of Saturday, November 14th, 2015, the Newton Police Department received an alarm at John’s Automotive on East Clinton Street. Investigation revealed that an actor had attempted to gain entry into the establishment via a back window. Surveillance video from the area was viewed and a possible suspect was developed. Witnesses also stated that the motor vehicle had a handicap placard hanging from the front mirror. In addition, the reported actor was carrying a black nylon guitar case and had with him a small brown dog.
On November 23, 2015, the Newton Police Department received an anonymous tip that the actor was Joseph S. Seagrave, age 35, of Green Township. Subsequent investigation led to Seagrave being positively identified as the actor who broke into John’s Automotive. On November 24, 2015, an arrest warrant was authorized by Judge John E. Mulhern, JMC charging Seagrave with Burglary (N.J.S. 2C:18-2a, a Crime of the Third Degree) and Criminal Mischief (N.J.S. 2C:17-3a(1), a Crime of the Fourth Degree). The damage was estimated to be over $500.00.
On November 25, 2015, Seagrave was arrested at the Morris County Jail where he is currently being held on unrelated charges stemming from an incident in Rockaway Boro. Bail was set by Judge Mulhern in the amount of $7,500.00 no 10%.
