Newton Medical Center Names a New Nursing and Operations Chief
NEWTON, NJ – Denise Fochesto, an award-winning nurse leader who has helped guide numerous achievements at Morristown Medical Center, has joined Newton Medical Center in the newly-created role of Director of Nursing and Operations.
In this new role, Fochesto will be responsible for overseeing the overall operation of Newton Medical Center by leading patient care and clinical services to ensure delivery of quality, cost effective and patient-centered programs to meet the current and future health care needs of the community and fulfill the vision and mission of Newton Medical Center and its parent organization, Atlantic Health System.
“Denise is a leader who knows how to work closely not only with nurses, but also with physicians and staff, and is constantly seeking new ways to enhance patient care. Those qualities have led to many successful initiatives in Morristown and we believe they will be an invaluable asset at Newton Medical Center,” said Joe DiPaolo, president of Newton Medical Center, and vice president of Atlantic Health System. “We are fortunate to have someone with the breadth of experience that Denise brings to this new role at Newton Medical Center. She embodies a lifelong commitment to nursing excellence.”
Fochesto brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from Morristown Medical Center, where she served as manager of the 22-bed Surgical/Trauma/Neuro Intensive Care Unit; the 10-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit; Hyperbaric Medicine Department; and Nursing Resource Center.
As a member of the Morristown Medical Center Magnet Steering Committee, Fochesto participated in the Magnet nursing designation at that hospital and also was involved in implementing Morristown Medical Center’s shared governance model.
Over the last several years, she has led the development and opening of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, overseen the hospital wide ICU-staffed Rapid Response Team and led the hyperbaric team to New Jersey’s first certified unit by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. Within the Nursing Resource Center, she has spearheaded the creation of an internal sitter resource pool.
“This is an exciting opportunity, and I am looking forward to working closely with the nurses, doctors and staff at Newton Medical Center to explore new levels of service that we can bring to the community and our patients,” Fochesto said.
In June, Fochesto received the 2014 Nurse.com Nursing Excellence Gem Award in the Nurse Manager category for Staff and Patient Management for the New Jersey/New York region. As a regional winner, she advances to the national Gem Award competition to be announced this fall.
Fochesto achieved a bachelor of science in nursing at Molloy College in New York and a master of science in nursing, adult nurse practitioner, at Seton Hall University. She is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Organization of Nurse Executives/NJ and serves on their Fiscal Committee.
