Newton to Host First Annual Country Cool Festival in October
NEWTON, N.J. – Local favorites the Snake Oil Willie Band will be the headliners, and the Sussex County Social Services Food Pantry and the Newton Fire Museum & Department will be the beneficiaries, when the Town of Newton teams up with the Mitchell Insurance Agency and Sussex County Community College (SCCC) to host the 1st Annual Newton Country Cool Festival on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from noon till 5:00 p.m. (rain or shine).
The event will be held on the Connor Green/Pavilion at SCCC, and will feature over 20 craft and food vendors from the greater Newton area. Event organizers are expecting more than 1,000 attendees. Other event sponsors include Selective Insurance, Lisa Fairclough Enterprises, the Vozza Agency, JCP&L, Thorlabs, Lakeland Bank, CenturyLink, D&E and D&H Alternative Risk Solutions, Inc.
“The event will help raise funds and awareness for both the Sussex County Social Services Food Pantry and the Newton Fire Museum and Department,” noted Keith Mitchell of the Mitchell Insurance Agency. “With a harsh winter ahead predicted by many forecasters, the Food Pantry will be able to serve more local families and individuals in need through the funds raised at what we hope will become an annual event.”
“We were planning something for the fall, and when the Mitchell Agency approached us with plans for a benefit we recognized a great opportunity to make a contribution to the Food Pantry and the Newton Fire Museum and Department, while providing a showcase for the exciting things that are happening in town for local residents and people from throughout the region,” added Thomas S. Russo, Jr., Newton’s Town Manager. “Partnering with the folks from the Mitchell Insurance Agency and a long list of other sponsors and supporters has been great, and we appreciate Sussex County Community College’s offer to present the event on the green in the heart of their beautiful campus.”
Admission will be $3.00 and a donation of canned goods is appreciated. All proceeds at the gate will go to the Food Pantry. In addition to headliners Tony from The Snake Oil Willie Band, two other bands, R.E.N.O. and Mike Herz will perform. 102.3 WSUS-FM will broadcast live from the event and attendees will be asked to help “Stuff the Bus” in the station’s annual food collection campaign.
Along with crafts and food available for purchase from more than 20 vendors, the Newton Fire Museum will run a beer/wine tent, with a soda/water tent provided by the Newton Fire Department. A Kid Zone will feature face painting, pumpkin painting and a bounce house. There will also be pie-eating contests for adults and kids.
Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets for the concerts. No outside coolers, beverages or food will be allowed. For more information, email manager@newtontownhall.com.
