Motor Vehicle Accident with Injury in Newton (Motor Vehicle versus Building)
On 6/21/15 at 2:56a.m., Newton Police responded to the area of Tri-County Audio on Main Street, Newton for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle into a building.
Upon arrival, it was learned that Cory Barnes, age 23, of Main Street, Johnsonburg, NJ ran off the roadway while traveling northbound on Rt. 206 in a 1994 Toyota Camry before striking a NJ DOT street sign and then running into the Verizon Wireless building at 227 Main Street.
The vehicle had multiple airbag deployment as a result of the crash and Barnes was transported to the Newton Medical Center by the Newton First Aid Squad where he was treated and released for a minor injury to his right forearm.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Cory Barnes was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
As a result, he was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
39:4-50 Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence
39:4-97 Careless Driving
Barnes was released pending a future appearance in Newton Municipal Court.
