MVA -DWI Arrest, Assault By Auto, Careless Driving, Failure to Keep Right
On 4/15/15 at 5:35p.m., Newton Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on West End Avenue.
Upon arrival, it was learned that a 2005 White Nissan Altima operated by Steven J. Witzl, age 18, of Upper Hill Road, Newton was proceeding eastbound on West End Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and it suddenly crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a utility pole on the westbound shoulder. Witzl was uninjured as a result of the crash but his 19 year old male passenger was transported to the Newton Medical Center by the Newton First Aid Squad for a complaint of pain to his shoulder.
Subsequent investigation resulted in Witzl being arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. As a result, Witzl was charged with the following offenses:
39:4-50 Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence
39:4-97 Careless Driving
39:4-82 Failure to Keep Right
N.J.S. 2C:12-1C(2) Assault by Auto (4th Degree)
Witzl was processed and released pending a 4/28/15 court appearance. Damaged utility pole was replaced by JCP&L. Witzl’s vehicle was towed from the scene by D&E Service.
