Theft and Narcotics Offenses
On July 7, 2014 the Franklin Police responded to a report of a theft complaint at the Wal-Mart. Asset protection associates provided initial responding patrol officers with a description and video surveillance of the Wal-Mart store during the alleged theft incident.
Detective Robert Vander Ploeg conducted an investigation and recognized the suspect. Detectives made contact with Daniel A. Mackerley, 25, of Hamburg New Jersey in Hamburg New Jersey. While conducting the investigation, Detectives found Mr. Mackerley in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, along with drug paraphernalia and hypodermic needles. Detective Vander Ploeg placed Mr. Mackerley into custody without incident.
Further investigation by Detective Vander Ploeg revealed that Mr. Mackerley obtained older store receipts, would allegedly shoplift the items found on the receipts, and then allegedly return the items using the receipts in exchange for United States currency.
Mr. Mackerley was charged with Shoplifting, theft by deception, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of hypodermic needles, possession of drug paraphernalia, and use of a controlled dangerous substance.
Mr. Mackerley was transported to the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 with no ten percent option.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a Court of law.
