Let’s talk about building our organizations.
How can we be more innovative in strengthening the connectivity of our people and places to promote our unique assets, share our common interests and invigorate others into living history? The program is sponsored by the History Alliance, a group formed to allow the county’s 39 history and heritage organizations to communicate with each other, and to provide information about how similar organizations operate effectively.
The evening will also include information about the upcoming Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council’s Heritage Tour Weekend (Oct 16-17th) and an update about the progress at Horton Mansion by Wayne McCabe.
Come share the evening with us in the History Alliance at the Sandyston Municipal Building on Monday, June 29. The doors will be open at 7:00 PM and the meeting will be held at 7:30. The meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
The agenda will include networking, a presentation on how to encourage young interests in investing in history.
The municipal building is located at 133 Route 645, Sandyston, NJ 07826. Easy directions are: Take US Route 206 North to Route 675, turn left. About 700 yards ahead is the Municipal Building across the road

HANDS-ON HISTORY
August 17-20 2015
This year, our fourth year of doing our popular summer program “Hands-On History,” we again have some new activities and an exciting program for children during the week of August 17-20, 2015.
This program is for children entering Grades 2, 3, and 4 in September 2015. We are now accepting applications and can only accommodate first-come, first-served up to about 25 children in the program. Register early as many children return each year, and this popular program fills up quickly. The program runs each day from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is $15 per day per child.
The Hands-On History program is held Monday through Wednesday at the Historical Society headquarters at 294 Route 94 in Vernon, and on Thursday at the historic one-room schoolhouse on Price’s Switch Road in Vernon. The schoolhouse remains in its original condition since its doors closed on June 20, 1958.
Download the application and mail it with the registration fees to the Society at P.O. Box 387, Vernon, NJ 07462. For questions, email the Society at vernonhistoricalsociety@gmail.com. All registrations will receive immediate confirmations. Final scheduling and other details will be sent to participants in July.
