Community Listening Forum to ‘Shine the Light on Addiction and Recovery’
SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – On Thursday, January 29th, Sussex County residents have an incredible opportunity in their own back yard. Occurring throughout the state, Community Listening Forums are being held to reduce the stigma associated with addiction, highlight the many successful stories of recovery and to share solutions regarding the largest health crisis affecting our country. New Jersey has been at the forefront of a Recovery Advocacy movement sweeping the nation as people from every walk of life are stepping out of the shadows to encourage additional resources, implement better laws and policies and find solutions to drug addiction and alcoholism. There are many negative consequences of untreated addiction. Community Listening Forums, under the direction of the National Council on Drug Dependence and Alcoholism of New Jersey (NCADDNJ), are highlighting the positive aspects of recovery and allowing people to speak publicly for the first time with no judgment or shame. A listening panel of community leaders in law enforcement, the Division of Addiction Services, the judicial system, faith community members and others will listen as individuals in recovery and family members speak openly about addiction and recovery. Come and listen to the stories and, perhaps, find your own voice, as Sussex County becomes part of the national movement to “Shine the Light on Addiction and Recovery.” This event will be held at Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services, 93 Stickles Pond Road, Newton, from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 29th. All are welcome! Refreshments will be provided at 6pm along with an ability to browse local resource tables.
