Special Tuition Rates at SCCC for Military Veterans
NEWTON, N.J. – In their continuing efforts to offer support to military veterans, Sussex County Community College has announced that it will give a special tuition rate to all veterans.
“This is a huge, huge deal,” said Mike DeVilliers, Veterans Services Coordinator at SCCC. “We are very excited about this new initiative. It’s another way for us to thank our veterans for their service to our country.”
Therefore, those who have had active federal service of 90 days or more are eligible for the College’s Veteran Tuition Rate. In addition, any dependent of a veteran that is receiving VA education benefits is also eligible for the Veteran Tuition Rate.
“This goes above and beyond what any other college does,” said DeVilliers, a veteran of the Army himself. “If you are a veteran – or a dependent – and eligible, you get the Veteran Tuition Rate.”
SCCC is proud to offer the Veteran Tuition Rate to all vets. SCCC currently has many veterans from Sussex County enrolled, as well as 30 veterans from nearby Pike and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania.
This is the latest effort by the College to assist in the transition to state side for veterans. The staff works closely with veterans on a number of levels, assuring that they get the attention needed to receive their education. Another program offered by the College is its Student Veterans Emergency Relief program (SVER), which helps veterans in need of emergency funding while in college. SVER acts as a bridge for those veterans who qualify and are in need of housing, food, car payments and other basic needs when college is not in session.
“Our goal is to help our veterans complete their education so that they can reach their career aspirations,” DeVilliers said. “They’ve done a lot for us; it’s our turn to do what we can for them.”
