Seventh Annual Skylander 5 and 10 K Challenge set to run on October 5
NEWTON, NJ – Sussex County Community College (SCCC) is proud to host the 7th annual Skylander 5 and 10 K Challenge. The event will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 on the SCCC campus. Both races begin at 9 am with packet pick-up starting at 7 am. These two USATF-certified events will include a 10-kilometer race as well as a 5-kilometer event, where teams and walkers are also welcomed. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sussex County Community College Foundation and student scholarships.
The 5 and 10 K races follow the same route that will take participants through and around the beautiful SCCC campus. Runners will start in the upper campus and finish in front of the Connor Green in the campus center making for a fast “net” downhill run.
Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners, male and female SCCC students and the top 3 corporate and school teams. Additional awards will be given by 10 year age groups 7 to 80 plus. The awards with be distributed at 10:30 a.m. among refreshments and music underneath the Pavilion.
In celebration of Newton’s 150th Anniversary, SCCC will be offering a new Kids’ Event for children 12 years of age and under. The Kid’s Events will include a wheel barrow race, three legged race, and more. All participants in the Kids’ Event will receive ribbons; medals will be awarded to the winners.
Participants can register online through raceforum.com/skylanderchallenge. The registration fee is $25. SCCC and area students (K-12) can participate for $10. Participation in the new Kids’ Event (ages 12 and under) will cost $5.
